Visa Subclasses
The visa subclasses for migrating to Australia under the family visa category include:
- The Temporary Scheme – This scheme permits the family members of the Australian sponsor to enter the country and stay with them for a defined period of time and work in Australia based on the visa conditions. The family members for this scheme include parents, partners, children, or relatives.
- The Permanent Scheme – This scheme allows the family members of the Australian sponsor to visit and stay permanently in the country. A permanent resident enjoys almost the same benefits as an Australian citizen, with a few minor exceptions. The family members for this scheme include parents, partners, children, or relatives.
The visas under the family stream migration program take a long time to process due to the high volume of visa applications. Depending on the personal profile of the applicant and their visa requirements, the processing time may vary. The application may take longer to process if the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) requires extra information or additional documentary evidence. The DHA may collect additional information from the applicants as well as external agencies. The temporary visa category is subject to minor assessment procedure and conditions in comparison to the permanent visa. It is advisable to consider the processing time while applying for a family visa.
