If you are a bright student wanting to remain in Australia, or a striving entrepreneur, take note – recent changes to Australia’s Skilled Migration Program could be life changing.
The new policy includes a change to the Skilled Migration Program’s Points Test System (pertaining to students), and the introduction of the new Entrepreneur Visa.
With an ongoing skills shortage in certain fields across the nation, Australia is constantly seeking to attract talented and skilled migrants.
Students fit this bill, and that is why Australia has recently added five additional points to the Skilled Migration system which will be awarded to students with Doctorate-level or Masters-level degrees in the following fields:
- Science
- Technology
- Engineering
- Mathematics
- Information and communication
These changes came into effect on 10 September 2016.
Also, in case you missed the news, from the 1 July 2016, a new simplified framework for student visas was implemented. Regardless of your chosen field of study, there is now only one student visa stream for study in Australia – subclass 500 visa.
Furthermore, the new Entrepreneur Visa provides a pathway for permanent residency, giving entrepreneurs the ability to pursue and realise their business ambitions in Australia. The visa literally allows individuals to chase their dreams, while promoting a positive contribution to the Australian economy.
